Armed combat

Armed combat it’s primarily military combat scenario. On-duty military personal is expected to be armed and should be trained for use of there weapon in self-defense scenarios. The same applies to police forces (even UK police with its non-armed policy arming its officers with buttons, quick action handcuffs, paper spray, etc).

In civilian self-defense use of weapon are less common, even in countries that permit civilians to own arms, because, outside of special circumstances, people not expect to get into harms way when them found themselves in trouble.

In the Old Times, when walking stick was a common attribute of a middle class European man it was also used as self-defense weapon, but this tradition is long gone. Even elderly people, who are using walking stick out of necessity, not caring any more those heavy wooden sticks with solid brass handle that makes formable war club as need arise.
